Last night was the second week of the season for our men's spring softball team. And while chatting with a few of the guys during last weeks games, somehow the topic of GPS running watches came up, and I mentioned how I had one of the Garmin one's. I said I thought it would be funny to wear it during a game to see what it looked like....so that's exactly what I did. I brought the watch to last night's games and put it on for just the first game. I paused the timer when I was just sitting in the dugout waiting to bat, then started it when going up to bat and when out in the field. [Can you guess which positions I play?] Here's the usual quick glance at the summary. Although I highly recommend clicking on 'view details' on this one to expand the view on Garmin's site. Also, click on 'aerial' view so you can actually see the field.
Unfortunately for me, I played awful last night [at least while batting] so the majority of the lines are either my playing in the outfield chasing fly balls, or running from home to first base, and then back to the dugout. If you expand onto the full Garmin site, and then click on on 'player' in the upper right hand area, you can then hit the 'play' button and see an animated tracking icon follow all the lines as the game progresses. At any rate, I thought it would just be interesting to see what it would look like, and see how well the watch works in other situations rather than just running. Also, I hit a top speed of 15mph running to first base. I know I can run faster when not running through dirt in cleats though, so I may have to clock myself using the watch since every time I try and run past a temporary radar clocking station it never seems to pick me up.
......I wonder what else I could use it for? Suggestions?!
