On Tuesday afternoon of this week one of my best friends, Ben, put on a small golf tournament for clients and friends of his and his partners financial planning/management business. It was just an appreciation thing and a chance for them to make more connections and have a little fun as well. It was a 4 person, scramble, gross score format. Meaning there were 5 teams of 4 players, and we would all tee off, then choose the best of the 4 shots and then the second shot we would repeat the same process until we hole out, then record the score for that hole. Having that many shots for essentially one score, you're expected to get pretty low scores as well.
In the past years my golf game was entry level at best, however this year I've seen some pretty significant improvements, and I contributed quite a few 'best shots' for my team to use, which was great. I even teed off and landed one ball about 6 feet from the pin on one hole! Anyways, we ended up beating two other teams by one stroke to take the win! We shot a 31 for the 9 holes [only played 9 holes due to lack of daylight], and we all had a lot of fun out there.
A slight side note, I bought a new point and shoot camera a month or so ago, and one of the cool features is its ability to shoot video in super slow-mo, as in more than 200 frames per second. So we brought the camera out on a couple drives and filmed each other teeing off. Check out those videos below, my friend Randy's form is a lot better than mine....I'm getting there though. Anyways, it was my first and probably last golf trophy I'll ever win, but I'll take it! Here's a couple pictures, and the video. Thanks again Ben for a great event!
Our team at the prizes table at the 7th hole, during which Ben
and his partner challenged us to a closest to the pin contest. [We
opted to hold up the trophies instead...must have been good
luck for us!]
